Golden Bay Summer Season

New Zealand artists rely heavily on tourism for a good portion of their income in remote places like Golden Bay. I am certainly one of those artists. Living in paradise is lovely but in reality, money is still required!

Last week I recited a poem at the famous Mussel Inn. The reading was of a song called 'Money Isn't Real' - recorded by country artist Jordan Davis. It speaks to only needing the basics and what true wealth is - family and friends. This really does sum up Golden Bay. Many of us are scraping the barrel to get by, but the community is what is vital.

As we move into labour weekend, we see an increased number of visitors in the area. They all go to Takaka, as this is the central hub and all roads lead to the artistic town. You will see art galleries, jewellers, gift shops, locally produced vegies and meat and so great food.

I also sell my products and art through many of these locally owned stores and am very proud to be working with them, as together we can make it work.
